Intro Wednesday // Among Savages

I love this haircut.
It's wednesday! Halfway through the week. Woo! This means it is Intro Wednesday and this means I am gonna introduce to you guys another artist (one person claps).

So today I am sharing an artist by the name of Among Savages. He is an unsigned artist out of Nashville, which always makes me happy, being so close to Nashville. His music can definitely be described as indie and maybe a little experimental. Lots of strings and piano, sweet and poetic lyrics. I am drawn to the full sound of his songs. The mix is full of all sorts of instruments. If this doesn't give you any idea what he sounds listen down below or go to his facebook music page. To maybe give you a better idea his page claims his influences as Bjork, Little Dragon, Miike Snow, Richard Ashcroft, Radiohead, and Disney. His music is full of expression and the lyrics tell great stories that seem to fit perfect with the music.

He released his first full length album in January and it is called Wanderings of an Illustrative Mind. You can grab it at the bottom of my page in my store.

This is the opening track and one of my favorites so far. Hope you enjoy and tell me what you think!

Article Find!!

Check out this interesting article I found over at Paste Magazine. It's called 20 Musicians Discuss Their College Majors and whether or not you know or love the musicians it's super cool to see what they studied or if they even use it. There's some good ones. Click the link!

Intro Wednesday // Washed Out

Ernest Greene
I've decided to have a weekly posting called Intro Wednesday (or something cooler if I can come up with a better name). Intro Wednesday will be a day that I post about a band or artist I have been listening to or really love. I'm not claiming each one will be a completely new, cutting edge band you've never heard of. They might even be old or I might share an old song because I love going back to old album or song and remembering why I loved it so much in the first place. Either way, welcome to Intro Wednesday and I hope you will check back to see who I posted about.

So for my first post I'm gonna share an artist called Washed Out. I love this guy. His real name is Ernest Greene and he makes music that fits in the genere of chillwave. This is like electronic, flowing, easy listening dance music. It's really good and you should check out the genre itself. I first found out about him after watching one of my favorite shows Portlandia, for one of his songs is featured in the opening credits (it will be posted below). I had to know what the song was and I was opened up to a whole new world of beautiful music.

So far he has one E.P. out called Within and Without and his full length is called Life of Leisure. I recommend both for they won't disappoint. And here is a link to his tour dates.

This music and this song in particular is absolutely perfect for a wondrous, sunny day like today. Windows down, smoking on the front porch or chilling in your backyard. Buy from my store. I hope you enjoy.

Grouplove

This is a band I fell in love with after hearing the single off their e.p. down below. They are an indie-rock band from New York with raw, big chorus sounds that you can't help but sing along. Their lyrics are catchy and I enjoy this album the most when the sun is gleaming and windows rolled down. Forewarning: careful if you decide to search them in google for their name will direct you to some very interesting stuff....but their name literally means what it means. They are group of friends who have genuine love and care for each other and take pride in having such great relationships. This definately comes through in their music as well as performances and you can feel the passion behind each song. So check them out and I'm sure you will enjoy.

So for my first post [Fleet Foxes]

As mentioned in the previous post, I am embarking on a transformation. A new blog, a new style, a new ME!! Not really that eccentric but anyhow. I thought I'd share a band I discovered some time ago but I simply love coming back to an old band or old album and falling back in love with it again. You remember the lyrics and the melodies and your ears are filled with joy.

This band is called Fleet Foxes and I love their style. Their sound is a mixture. They've put together a concoction of styles with I would pin as folk, rock, and even spiritual. The sound comes across very soulful with harmonies and simple rhythms. The folk is nothing like today's folk-rock but is even compared to Appalachian folk or bluegrass. With parts of the song simply breaking down to them all singing a refrain, you feel the power of their vocals. The lyrics are intelligent and paint with wonderful imagery. I enjoy listening to this band most when I'm in a thoughtful mood or on a beautiful drive.

This is a video of their performance on SNL of a song called "Mykonos" off their Sun Giant E.P. I love this performance for it's pretty much flawless. Anyways, after all that crap, check it out. And give them a good listen.

A Different Direction

Hi there. So I've been struggling lately with revisiting my blog. Not simply because of writer's block or laziness but really because I have a small issue with them. I've been having this conversation with one of my friends who blogs as well as there is just a feeling that there is something wrong in principle to blog about honest, open thoughts and opinions. I'm sure we've all heard people remind us that once something is on the internet, is stamped into the history books for generations and generations to see. Probably true but maybe somewhat unreasonable or rather unlikely. Either way, I'm not fond with the idea that a future boss or peer could search my name on google and find my personal endeavors, thoughts, and opinons by stumbling across this blog. Therefore, I have come up with a solution!!! I love blogging and writing and to avoid sharing intimate details of my life and thoughts I have decided to gear this blog towards more of a music review page and opinions.

I am by no means an excellent reviewer or on the cutting edge, constantly finding new music for all to hear. But I am passionate. I love music and it means a lot to me. You may hate the music I listen to or even despise my very style and opinion. To you I say, screw off. Not really but I'm not forcing you to read this crap. So from here on out, I hope to post music reviews of new albums, old albums, or simply sharing some music I love. Music means a lot of things to me and I guess you could say I'm pretty opinionated when it comes to the stuff. Either way I hope you will find some use or some substance in what I choose to post.

Also, with my new, changing direction, I would also like to redesign my blog with a new name, style and maybe a cool logo. Any suggestions will all be taken seriously and accredited so please share. Thanks for reading. Thanks for caring. Namaste.

Hey folks

So i have not been finding free time lately because I have been a little school boy punk and studying my heart out for not one but TWO biology test that I have tomorrow. In case you were wondering, it's a class exam and a lab test. The ridiculously interesting Endocrine System and the Reproductive System. Needless to say, the Reproductive System is surprisingly easy to remember and that day in class EVERYBODY was interested and participating. Gotta love school right?? NOT! Anyways, I thought I would just mention that I did not forget that I have a blog and am gonna post more often then not. Not much to say tonight, but I have to share some new music I found. I heard of this band through Paste magazine and they were their top performer at SXSW. They are unbelievable. A mix of folk, anthems, and huge swells that make you want to shout along. Either way, you need to hear these guys. I have fallen in love with them and their song "We Will All Be Changed" has been on repeat for the past two days. So check it out down here and let me know what you think.
