Grouplove

This is a band I fell in love with after hearing the single off their e.p. down below. They are an indie-rock band from New York with raw, big chorus sounds that you can't help but sing along. Their lyrics are catchy and I enjoy this album the most when the sun is gleaming and windows rolled down. Forewarning: careful if you decide to search them in google for their name will direct you to some very interesting stuff....but their name literally means what it means. They are group of friends who have genuine love and care for each other and take pride in having such great relationships. This definately comes through in their music as well as performances and you can feel the passion behind each song. So check them out and I'm sure you will enjoy.

So for my first post [Fleet Foxes]

As mentioned in the previous post, I am embarking on a transformation. A new blog, a new style, a new ME!! Not really that eccentric but anyhow. I thought I'd share a band I discovered some time ago but I simply love coming back to an old band or old album and falling back in love with it again. You remember the lyrics and the melodies and your ears are filled with joy.

This band is called Fleet Foxes and I love their style. Their sound is a mixture. They've put together a concoction of styles with I would pin as folk, rock, and even spiritual. The sound comes across very soulful with harmonies and simple rhythms. The folk is nothing like today's folk-rock but is even compared to Appalachian folk or bluegrass. With parts of the song simply breaking down to them all singing a refrain, you feel the power of their vocals. The lyrics are intelligent and paint with wonderful imagery. I enjoy listening to this band most when I'm in a thoughtful mood or on a beautiful drive.

This is a video of their performance on SNL of a song called "Mykonos" off their Sun Giant E.P. I love this performance for it's pretty much flawless. Anyways, after all that crap, check it out. And give them a good listen.

A Different Direction

Hi there. So I've been struggling lately with revisiting my blog. Not simply because of writer's block or laziness but really because I have a small issue with them. I've been having this conversation with one of my friends who blogs as well as there is just a feeling that there is something wrong in principle to blog about honest, open thoughts and opinions. I'm sure we've all heard people remind us that once something is on the internet, is stamped into the history books for generations and generations to see. Probably true but maybe somewhat unreasonable or rather unlikely. Either way, I'm not fond with the idea that a future boss or peer could search my name on google and find my personal endeavors, thoughts, and opinons by stumbling across this blog. Therefore, I have come up with a solution!!! I love blogging and writing and to avoid sharing intimate details of my life and thoughts I have decided to gear this blog towards more of a music review page and opinions.

I am by no means an excellent reviewer or on the cutting edge, constantly finding new music for all to hear. But I am passionate. I love music and it means a lot to me. You may hate the music I listen to or even despise my very style and opinion. To you I say, screw off. Not really but I'm not forcing you to read this crap. So from here on out, I hope to post music reviews of new albums, old albums, or simply sharing some music I love. Music means a lot of things to me and I guess you could say I'm pretty opinionated when it comes to the stuff. Either way I hope you will find some use or some substance in what I choose to post.

Also, with my new, changing direction, I would also like to redesign my blog with a new name, style and maybe a cool logo. Any suggestions will all be taken seriously and accredited so please share. Thanks for reading. Thanks for caring. Namaste.

Hey folks

So i have not been finding free time lately because I have been a little school boy punk and studying my heart out for not one but TWO biology test that I have tomorrow. In case you were wondering, it's a class exam and a lab test. The ridiculously interesting Endocrine System and the Reproductive System. Needless to say, the Reproductive System is surprisingly easy to remember and that day in class EVERYBODY was interested and participating. Gotta love school right?? NOT! Anyways, I thought I would just mention that I did not forget that I have a blog and am gonna post more often then not. Not much to say tonight, but I have to share some new music I found. I heard of this band through Paste magazine and they were their top performer at SXSW. They are unbelievable. A mix of folk, anthems, and huge swells that make you want to shout along. Either way, you need to hear these guys. I have fallen in love with them and their song "We Will All Be Changed" has been on repeat for the past two days. So check it out down here and let me know what you think.

Sunday and Music

It is the shank of the evening for me on this beautiful sunday for I have studying, conversing, and reading to fill the rest of the night but I am mindful of my heart-felt motivation to try and keep up my blog much better than my previous attempts. I thought I would talk about a couple things that might somehow be interconnected but just follow my somewhat illogical path. If you do not know I attend Arrowhead Church here in good ole' Morristown and I play electric guitar in the worship band. I absolutely love it. It is probably the coolest way to serve and I hope I always have the opportunity to do so wherever I may be in life or location. Anyways, my good friend Jameson led today and it went really well. He's basically the man. If you know him then you undoubtably agree. We played a super awesome John Mark McMillan song called "Death in His Grave," which I'll post the video for down from here.

But what I'm really trying to get at here is expressing what music has done for me in many aspects of my life, but specifically in the church. It is so amazing and also a big responsibility (for spiritual and time commitment reasons) to be a part of a worship band. I was talking with a friend earlier about God and music. We both feel that God uses music to speak to us and sometimes draw us back to him. Whether it be lyrics, inspiration or the act of worship. Sometimes simply having the responsibility of being in a worship band. God has used this to help me recall His presence many a times. God has blessed us both with the wonderful gift of music and I say that in the most humble way possible (believe me I am the first to say I am no pro). This is a huge blessing to me and I honestly can not imagine my life without it. Music is a beautiful thing and I am humbled to use it to glorify the Kingdom of God.

Back to the John Mark McMillan song. I absolutely love this song and this video. The lyrics are simple and astonishing like all of his stuff. Seriously, if you haven't checked him out, do so right now. Seriously. Get off my blog and go to this link: John Mark McMillan Myspace. Ok, so this video of this show or whatever is amazing and I am jealous of the people in it. But anyways, enjoy and let me know what you think. Or don't. Right.

Yes I Realize...

Yes I realize I haven't posted in forever. Which means a few things. 1. Life can be freaking busy at times 2. I forgot for awhile I had a blog and 3. Laziness. Either way I've decided to post today due to the fact that I want nothing to do with studying for Biology at the moment so this felt like the better alternative. I haven't got much to say this morning but hopefully I can come up with some interesting stuff in the near future. So for now I'm gonna post a couple videos. Watch them! The first one is a worship leader and songwriter from a church in NC and I've really gotten into him. It is a refreshing sound that steps away from the standard, contemporary stuff most of us hear in our churches. I like that. A lot. I guess it just feels more genuine for me then repeating standard, probably memorized lyrics. Nothing wrong with these type of songs, just have gotten bland and lost some of their meaning for me. Anyways, the next video is of a group called Matthew and the Atlas. Just recently found their stuff and immediately fell in love with it after the first play. His voice is extremely mature and soulful and this folk-rock stuff is undeniably in right now (Have you ever heard of Mumford and Sons??? Haha). So please enjoy both and please download both of these guys' music for you have my honest, unbiased approval, if you care for it.
